Amplicon libraries can be used to target a previously identified variant, e.g., to detect the emergence of mutations conferring resistance to anti-tumour treatment.
Amplicon libraries do not have a high DNA template requirement (3 ng of DNA); they can be prepared even in one day. However, we cannot obtain information on the whole gene, only on specific gene sequences for which designed primers are available, and the number of targets that can be tested in a single reaction is limited.
